Emma Martha Raile Piper
Emma Martha was born in 1912 in the home of her parents, Gottlieb and Regina Raile, northwest of St. Francis, Kansas.  She attended a rural school in Cheyenne County and St. Francis Community High School in St. Francis, graduating in 1932.  She attended Ft. Hays State Teachers College in Hays and Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, Colorado.

On August 8, 1935, Emma married Francis Morley Piper.  They lived on a farm near Armel, Colorado for 20 years.  She taught in the rural schools of Cheyenne County, Kansas from 1932 until the spring of 1941.

The couple had three children, Jean Frances, Bruce Neale and Charlotte June.  Jean died in infancy.  

Emma was an active member of the Evangelical Church in Cheyenne County, Kansas and later the United Methodist Church in Yuma, Colorado.  She started a nursing career in 1958 and became a licensed practical nurse in 1959.  She worked at the Yuma District Hospital from 1959 until she retired in 1975 due to poor health.  She belonged to the Professional Women's Club, the United Methodist Women and the Sewing Club.

Emma died February 26,1982 in the Yuma District Hospital, Yuma, Colorado.
